Client Testimonial

"My consultation with Jasmin Kaur was nothing short of amazing!

She was very thoughtful in the way she analyzed by work, and she provided concrete steps to help it improve. She guided us through a very insightful conversation where were were able to talk honestly and constructively about my work. After the consult, Jasmin was even kind enough to send me recommendations of artists I could read in order to reach the goals we discussed. I truly appreciated all the insight provided during the consultation and highly recommend meeting with her!"

Frequently Asked Questions

I'm very new to writing and nervous about a one-on-one review of my work. Is this the right place for me?

As a certified public school teacher and long-time creative writing facilitator, it's very important to Jasmin that you feel comfortable, supported and empowered through your literary consultation and workshop. The goal of the consultation is to help you recognize your unique literary talents and see your space for artistic growth. This consultation is dedicated to lifting you up, no matter where you are on your writing journey.

What is Jasmin's professional background in writing?

Jasmin began performing spoken word poetry and studying Creative Writing through her Bachelor's of English at the University of the Fraser Valley in 2012. Since then, she has gone on to internationally publish her debut poetry and prose collection, WHEN YOU ASK ME WHERE I'M GOING, which was shortlisted for the Goodreads Choice Award in 2019. Her forthcoming book, IF I TELL YOU THE TRUTH, is a YA novel in poetry and prose releasing in January 2021. She is currently crafting a wide array of new fiction in the University of British Columbia's MFA in Creative Writing program.

I'm a high school student. Can I still book a consultation or one-on-one writing workshop?

Yes! Jasmin is a public school teacher who has facilitated creative workshops for new and seasoned teen writers. Please let Jasmin know your grade and level of comfort with creative writing and she will tailor your session based around your needs and interests.

How do I pay for my consultation?

Once you submit your booking form, Jasmin will review your submission and writing sample (if you choose to include one with your form!) to make sure that she's suited to your work and consultation goals. She'll be in touch with you via email if the two of you seem like a good fit and will send you an invoice via PayPal customized to the price of what you'd like to book her for (30 minutes, 60 minutes and/or any review add-ons that you'd like). You will be able to pay via your PayPal account, Credit Card or Visa Debit Card. All payments must be made at least 24 hours prior to your session.

I'm worried that something I've written is problematic or could be harmful to people of marginalized identities and I'm not sure about submitting it to Jasmin. What should I do?

If you've identified this as a concern, that's very important. In your submission form, please include more information about this and, depending on the material, Jasmin may be able to provide feedback through a sensitivity reader lens.

Can I book a consultation if I don't yet have any writing to submit for review?

Definitely! The consultation can act, instead, as a question and answer period about writing and publishing advice as well as a creative writing workshop to create new content. In the consultation, you can also discuss your writing and publishing goals with Jasmin, both short- and long-term.

I have more than 10 or 20 pages of writing that I would like Jasmin to review. Is this possible?

Yes, you can!  Each additional set of 1-5 pages costs $10 CAD. Jasmin will review up to a total of 30 pages per consultation.

What constitutes "1 page"?

For the purposes of review rates and page volume, 1 page of fiction or prose is considered a letter-sized page, double-spaced at a 12 point Times New Roman font, or similar. 1 page of poetry is considered a letter-sized page, single-spaced at a 12 point Times New Roman font, or similar, that features 1 poem of any length. If the majority of your poems are quite short (between 1-10 lines), Jasmin may, on a case-by-case basis, let you know that you can submit more poems for free.

I only want Jasmin to review my literary proposal or query letter. Are rates different for this?

Jasmin's base rates take into account the hours of creative preparation prior to your consultation, the consultation time, itself, and additional feedback after the consultation. For this reason, the base rates remain consistent across different types of submissions.

I have a non-fiction article draft that I'd like Jasmin's feedback on. Does she offer this service?

As Jasmin's area of expertise is poetry and YA fiction, she will consider creative non-fiction and other literary mediums on a case-by-case basis, to ensure that she is the right consultant for your work.

I would like a written review letter but I'm booking a 30 minute session. Is this possible?

Yes! Jasmin's review letters are thorough and tailored specifically for your creative growth. To account for additional time required to create this letter for you, $10 CAD will be added to your 30 minute consultation cost.
